Safeguarding statement
Last updated: 07/10/2026
I work with children through English lessons, readings and school visits. Their safety and wellbeing always come first. This statement sets out how I work.
English lessons
- Lessons are booked and arranged with a parent or guardian. I don’t message children directly or connect with them on social media.
- In-person lessons take place [in a shared, visible space, or at home with a parent or guardian present].
- For online lessons, a parent or guardian is nearby, and lessons are never recorded unless a parent agrees in writing.
Readings and school visits
A member of staff is always present, and I follow the host school’s or library’s own safeguarding policy.
Photos and videos
I never photograph or film children without written consent from a parent or guardian, and I never publish children’s names or other identifying details.
Checks
I have a valid UK DBS check, and basic first-aid training.
Raising a concern
If you’re worried about anything, email me at tjhayesbooks@gmail.com. If a child is in immediate danger, call 112.
I review this statement every year.
